Following my link up with City Lions & RBKC Libraries for their annual Creative Collective Exhibition at Saatchi Gallery, happy to say several of the artworks from the schools I helped facilitate students in creating, made it in the final exhibition after a public vote YAY! (Although my personal faves didn’t make it Ah well)
Looking at a blank piece of paper & starting anything can be a daunting thing, especially creating some art / an expression of self, and especially when you only have 1hr to do it.…
Teamed up with the guys at Legacy Youth Zone to deliver a sketch session with local young creatives, which will also form the basis of a larger art project within their amazing space.
I was a youth worker back in the day, across several sites mainly in the Croydon area, and remember how important youth llubs were for young people to engage socially and interact with one another *Offline.…
I use a Bic biro to sketch, nothing fancy, yet this simple medium brings me mad joy when capturing a moment, so thought to myself…with everything going on right now, especially the pressures on young people, why not share the vibes with others…
OUTREACH:
I’m looking to visit council estates mainly in London (but not restricted to) & run Sketch The Vibe walks complete with STV Starter Kits (sketchbook & working materials) in the hope to engage young people offline more & build their artistic confidence.…
Located in Trumble Gardens Playground, Thornton Heath, local Art Activists Frank & Surel (sweet couple) initiated a project to help clean up the playground and surrounding gardens which can often be neglected and super uninspiring to the local youth. Well, they got in touch with moi and was only too happy to help out, as I figure if we as artists are able to inject & enrich our local areas with a positive message through our art, than hopefully it’s a start to strengthening communities which can often be disconnected at times…simply realising the power you have to make a positive shift in a small way can actually make a big change, slowly but surely…once again though, most want change but do eff all about it…time to TAKE ACTION, NOT WACKTION®
Shout out John (caretaker *makes a mean cuppa) Courtney, Zoe & Eric (dog) who each gave 10/10 on playbility factor 🙂
Big up the lively creative bunch down Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne, who participated in my ‘Plan It, Project It!’ Workshop, about what to think about when planning a project in their local community…we kicked off with some group brainstorming, then touched on key areas such as objectives, budgeting, branding, promotion and engagement…some serious doodle action went down too!
This was part of a NCS (National Citizens Service) initiative which helps 16/17yr olds build skills for work and life, whilst taking on new challenges and meeting new friends.…
