“WE WERE THE LUCKY FEW” – REFUGEE WEEK 2020

I was commissioned by the National Archives UK to create a series of illustrations responding to refugee stories for Refugee Week 2020 – the whole process moved me, as it made me think of how it must’ve been for my family during Partition.

“The aim of this year’s programme is to share information about the reality of the refugee experience. The Partition of British India, which led to one of the largest mass migrations in history, contains countless stories and is a fitting way to speak to this experience.

Popped down Penge on a random one over the weekend, and came across this beautiful 13ft mural of Mimi Fresh (@firemoonfresh) painted by artist Dreph (Neequaye Dsane / @Dreph_). Apparently the mural was part of 10 large scale murals painted across the capital to celebrate extraordinary women doing amazing things in their communities and society as a whole…

So good, The MET are protecting it…

Big up Ryan from SnowBallz, for getting me down to bless up a message on the local skate ramp in Wandle Park, Croydon – used to play tennis here as a teenager wayyyyy back during my teenage years – was good to see the local youth unleashing their response to BLM *Ps. if you’re a parent, have THAT convo and EDUCATE yourself with them, IF you care about living in an equal & anti-racist society COMFORT DISCOMFORT GROWTH 🙂
