PINS Play Hut – Thornton heath

PINS Play Hut_main

PINS Playhut is now officially open for play…

Located in Trumble Gardens Playground, Thornton Heath, local Art Activists Frank & Surel (sweet couple) initiated a project to help clean up the playground and surrounding gardens which can often be neglected and super uninspiring to the local youth. Well, they got in touch with moi and was only too happy to help out, as I figure if we as artists are able to inject & enrich our local areas with a positive message through our art, than hopefully it’s a start to strengthening communities which can often be disconnected at times…simply realising the power you have to make a positive shift in a small way can actually make a big change, slowly but surely…once again though, most want change but do eff all about it…time to TAKE ACTION, NOT WACKTION®

Shout out John (caretaker *makes a mean cuppa) Courtney, Zoe & Eric (dog) who each gave 10/10 on playbility factor 🙂

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE – MUSEUM OF CROYDON

PINS_Museum Of Croydon_Eflyer

Museum of Croydon, heard of it? Thought not…

I’ll be doing a month long Artist Residency with a full on #PINStallation taking shape over the time period, in the hope to not only raise more awareness that the place even exists (only realised it was here a year or so ago), but more importantly to connect & engage with wider a demographic through art, especially young people, those who may not be familiar with the likes of the Tates & V&As, or cos travelling up to London ain’t cheap, and sometimes just wanting something in local settings that they can actually relate to, in some way, would make sense…anyway, I’m gonna be at the Museum from the 25th Aug onwards, feel free to drop by, connect, and please spread the word if you know of any young creatives or whoever that may benefit making a visit down or from taking part in my series of ‘Tech A Break Here’ Workshops, one of which kicked off today, designed to get you off them phones and into full creative zones, peacefully…

25th Aug

‘AN EXQUISITE MESS’ SHOW

An Exquisite Mess, Haley McLane show, PINS Artist, Bruna Magalhaes©

Was recently involved in a group show entitled ‘An Exquisite Mess‘ (Think Wallace Collection meets Burning Man Fest) – Set in the lovely private home of designer Haley Mclane down in Clifton Gardens, featuring a mixed bag of 30 artists, DJs and live performance artists.

The whole night was a vibe I have to say…some quality artworks and a nice mash up of people…oh, and the food 😛 Was just nice to experience a full on show inside a house other than a gallery for a change, really helped shape the vibe and enjoyed the way people responded to the works, as if you could say, this was their house for the night, that homely feel without that clinical / stuffy vibe of a gallery, if you know what I mean…

Big up Haley on putting it all together alongside art curator India Dickinson, and all the other artists involved…special shout out to my guy Carlos for the connection, Whiskey, Henry, Sequinkay, Adam & Fred…Big up the Staircase going into the ceiling too *Features!…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID HAMMONS

David Hammons, Snowballs

“Doing things in the street is more powerful than art I think. Because art has gotten so…I don’t know what the fuck art is about now. It doesn’t do anything, like Malcolm X said, it’s like Novocaine. It used to wake you up but now it puts you to sleep. I think that art now is putting people to sleep. Theres so much of it around in this town that it doesn’t mean anything.…

BLOOMIN’ THORNTON HEATH

In Bloom, Thornton Heath

The Thornton Heath Community Action Team aka THCAT, held the annual ‘In Bloom’ Garden competition, which basically judges the best looking garden in different categories of Business, Concrete Space, Front Garden and Children in the Thornton Heath area…something which I may have dismissed before, but actually really appreciate since noticing more and more flower activity popping up in random places during my daily boppage around the area.…
