#PINSDOODLES – NEW YORK
So over the past two months or so i’ve had the crazy urge to sketch moments as oppose to taking pictures, although I still actively do that too, it’s just being able to sketch anywhere there and then, biro to hand, sketchbook ready, feels super organic and totally in flow with my whole vibe of connecting and engaging through my art…plus as my normal canvas work is a tad more polished and controlled, sketching allowed me to free up a bit and get a bit more loose with it.
I also thought if Instagram or any online digital platforms went dead tomorrow, I would have lost moments in time unless I backed up all my pics which I hardly do, so guess me sketching not only fulfils my urge to create but also to document moments which I can physically keep, which is nice…
My first proper sketching ‘tour’ rolled out in New York last month, no plan, just BLAM!, anywhere I felt to sketch I did, some were super quick sketches like 15mins on the bus / Subway for example, others places a bit longer where I could actually chill like in coffee shops or department stores. I never really worried about the final outcome, like if it was perfect or not, simply to capture the essence of the moment…plus it felt like I was exercising my creative muscles each time, training the eye to look more, observe spaces and surroundings, and the placement of people in these spaces.
More to come 🙂
