TESCO TEA

Following my love of tea, I came across an interesting fact that Jack Cohen, the man behind Tesco, started off in the Hackney markets of London selling his own branded tea way back in 1924, the actual ‘TESCO’ name comes from the first three letters of the tea supplier’s name (Thomas Edward Stockwell), and the first two letters of his surname (CO).

After reading more into Tesco’s history, Mr Cohen’s business motto of “pile it high and sell it cheap” lead him to eventually creating one of the first ever British Supermarkets, and becoming the pioneer in providing a unique shopping experience in-store and online, (you may have your own reservations) big up the Club Card!

So the next time another Tesco pops up in your area, think ‘Progress’…but then that’s the pro capitalist in me talking!
