RICHMOND GOLF CLUB CHARITY DAY – ON COURSE FOUNDATION
Now I’m not a golfer, but making a few trips down to Richmond Golf Club can swerve you a little into actually appreciating the game, the picturesque setting and the lovely staff who run the place.
So last year I was invited by the club to donate some artwork for auction to help raise funds for their annual charity event, and managed to raise £1500 for the Regenerate UK charity with a piece entitled Doughputt, you can view it HERE
This year, the club invited me back again, and had the pleasure of donating some artwork for the On Course Foundation, which helps to build confidence and self-belief in wounded, injured and ill (WII) Service members and Veterans via golf skills and employment training events.
For the artwork entitled, Hole In One, (a term used when a ball is hit in one shot and goes in the hole) I took it back to my 3D canvas roots, and incorporated actual golf practice balls sliced in half on canvas, really happy how it turned out!
The overall event was quite an experience which involved a nice lunch and of course the live auction of all donations made, run by general manager John Maguire, who seems to have a natural flair for getting people to give him money through random requests, example, “If any one has a pocket on their shirt, £10 please”, or “if your number plate is XXXXXXX you are parked in the wrong bay, fine £20 please” the list went on…
I managed to help the club raise £2300 through my donated piece which was purchased by lovely club member Siobhan Gallagher, who is tall, well taller than me, bless her, she actually slumped down a notch to get down to my level for the pic below, ha…
Also ended up donating an additional piece of art which was made as a result of painting all 108 golf balls for guests, as once the balls had been lifted from the card once sprayed over at the same time, it left a rather nice print, so well done to Rebecca (Johns other half) for winning it, raising another couple hundred pounds on top!
All in all, the charity managed to raise almost £20,000 from various donations on the day, which is pretty amazing…
Big thanks to fellow friend Mrinal and Jeremy Williams (Club Captain) for getting me involved for such a worthy cause, John Maguire for being a great host, thanks to all the super sweet RGC staff and wishing all the best to Steve Holt, managing director of On Course Foundation.
